Sean Penn, on Will Smith's Oscar slap: Why did I go to f***ing jail for what you just did?

The day March 27, 2022 will go down in history as not only the day that Will Smith won his first Oscar as a leading actor, but also the day when he slapped Chris Rock on stage because of a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

More than a year and a half later, with things no more relaxed and after the Academy's veto, Sean Penn made his thoughts on the matter clear.

During a chat with Variety, the 63-year-old spoke about what happened in Los Angeles.

"I don't know Will Smith. I met him once. He seemed really nice when I met him. He was f***ing great in 'King Richard,'" said Penn.

When asked about the consequences Smith has faced since the incident, Penn let his anger known.

"So why the f--- did you just spit on yourself and everybody else with this stupid f---ing thing?," said Penn.

"Why did I go to f---ing jail for what you just did? And you're still sitting there? Why are you guys standing and applauding his worst moment as a person?"

What happened to Sean Penn and why did he go to jail?

Penn's words refer to 1987 during the filming of 'Colors'. That's when he was involved in an incident with an extra and assaulted the victim, which caused the actor to be sentenced to 60 days in jail, though he only served 33 before being released.

Back in 2010, Penn was sentenced to three years probation and 300 hours of community service for assaulting a photographer.

Meanwhile, Smith continues to serve the veto imposed by the Academy, which prevents the American actor from attending any of its events for the next 10 years from the 2022 incident.
